If you’re heading to Barcelona this summer and you’re a wine enthusiast, make sure to add at least one of these wine regions to your itinerary. I promise, You won’t regret it!

What’s even better is that all of these regions are within a 2-hour drive, and most are easily accessible by train as well.
Here is a list of 6 regions that are worth checking out:

Priorat – This region is a bit further from Barcelona, about a 2-hour drive, but it’s definitely worth the trip. It is one of the most beautiful regions with vineyards planted on terraces. Priorat is known for producing some of the best red wines in Spain, particularly Garnacha and Cariñena.

Tarragona – This region is about an hour’s drive from Barcelona and has a long history of winemaking. The wines here are typically full-bodied reds made from Garnacha and Cariñena grapes. The old town was my home for 6 months, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Penedès – This region is known for producing some of the best Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) in the country. It’s only about an hour’s drive from Barcelona and offers beautiful scenery and vineyards.

Terra Alta – This region is about a 2-hour drive from Barcelona and is known for producing some excellent Garnacha-based wines as well as whites made from the Garnacha Blanca grape. The land, vineyard and people of this region inspired Picasso to develop the cubism movement.

Conca de Barberà – This region is about an hour and a half drive from Barcelona and produces a variety of wines, including reds, whites, and rosés. You can also visit the well-maintained Poblet monastery in the region too.

Costers del Segre – This region is about a 2-hour drive from Barcelona and produces a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Chardonnay.
Whether you are a wine lover, an enthusiast or just an explorer, do visit these places next time you are in Catalunya and thank me later! 🙂
